Every woman has had one of those days where she can't find anything in her handbag. It doesn't seem to matter what size your handbag is, if it isn't organized, you're tempted to just dump everything out on the ground to find what you're looking for. Use some of the following suggestions to help you organize your handbag and to avoid having a "handbag fit." The Steps is :

Don't Overload Apart from anything else, a heavy bag is bad for your back, but being overloaded also ruins the line of a bag and stretches the leather. I carry a tote as well as my handbag to work, which acts like a mobile in-tray. Choose one without built-in dividers as these can be really annoying when you're trying to squeeze in something big like a file

Have a clear-out If I have a messy handbag, it feels like I've got messy hair like I'm not quite on top of things. Don't use your bag as a dumping ground. Every few weeks empty it on to a table and sort through the four lip-salves, three chequebooks and 15 receipts you've been carting around. We all carry far more than we need every day

Divide and Conquer I sort everything in my handbag into little loose pouches, each a different colour one for receipts, one for money, one for things such as paracetamol and lip-salve. It's like an internal filing system and makes it so much easier when transferring things from bag to bag. We've designed some beautiful leather ones a step up from the plastic foreign-currency wallets that gave me the idea in the first place

Everything in its Place I like handbags that have spaces specially designed for your pen, keys and mobile it helps you find things quickly, and saves you scrabbling around

Spring-Clean Regularly Don't forget to bang out all the dust, lint and rubbish from the bottom of a bag. I always wish that there was a handbag version of those trays in toasters that collect all the crumbs. I invariably have an Action Man leg or bit of plastic soldier lurking in there

Rotate Your Bags Don't use one bag to death then bin it - build up a collection and switch between them regularly. Storing leather bags carefully will add years to their lifespan. Stuff with tissue paper or a blown-up plastic bag to help them keep their shape

Love your Leather Handbags deserve to be looked after. Traditional craftsmen say that the best leather polish is the natural oil from your face, but a clear furniture polish such as Pledge will do the job. If your bag gets wet, let it dry naturally rather than putting it on top of a radiator. And try to avoid getting milk on a handbag - it absolutely ruins leather

Match Your Mood There's something undeniably mood-altering about handbags they're far more than just an object to carry your things in. I remember being given a tiny second-hand Gucci bag when I was 16 and feeling the bee's knees whenever I used it. They always say that actors never really get into character until they put on the shoes. I'm sure a woman's handbag has the same effect

For many of us, a purse can be a place into which many things disappear and never return. We can recall the times when a much needed cell phone, or wallet was nowhere to be found only for it to pop up when we were searching for something else. Spring is a great time to change purses to match the new spring fashion and colors. While you are changing handbags, why not get organized? Here are few tips to get you in gear and lighten the load and the confusion:

1. Purge your purse
Take the time clean out your purse with streamlining in mind and a wastebasket nearby. Dump out your purse and get rid of undecipherable scraps of paper, abandoned mints, gnarled tissues, and any other manner of utterly useless flotsam floating around and clogging up your purse. Keep the essentials like keys, wallet, cell phone, makeup case (a small one with essential makeup that you actually use) and a few items that you use when you’re out and about on a daily basis.

2. Opt for a smaller purse
For everyday use, be kind to your back and shoulders and carry a smaller bag with essential items (keys, wallet, cell phone makeup case, etc). With such a purse, heavy items like books and files cannot find a way to weigh you down. When choosing a bag, wider beats depth. A wider bag allows you to fit everything in without having to jam it in and a shallower bag removes that frustration of digging through a deep back for seeming irretrievable items.

3. Pack it in a pouch and go
Become versatile and pack your essential items into zippered pouches or a Purseket that can be transferred from bag to bag.

4. A place for everything
Set up a system that you use with every bag where you place your essential items in the same place. For instance, your cell phone always in the side pocket and wallet next to your PDA. With this pattern, you’ll find anything in any bag in no time.

5. Lighten your load daily
Keep the confusion at bay by emptying your purse daily and setting up a space for purse items on your dresser or in a drawer for easy repacking, regardless of which bag you use.

Organizing your purse is as essential as organizing your home. Keep down the clutter and the mess. Toss out garbage and unused items to keep the area open and available. Separate items into baggies or compartments for your convenience. These simple steps will help you stay organized and find what you need quickly and easily.
